THE sky’s the limit for a former St Augustine’s High School pupil who has just been awarded his RAF graduation certificate after successfully completing his training at a north Shropshire air base.

Leading aircraftsman Daniel Anson, 20, who joined the RAF in 2008, has just completed training as a flight operations assistant on No 992 Flight Operations Training Course at the Central Air Traffic Control School at RAF Shawbury, near Shrewsbury. Daniel’s course involved five weeks of training, during which he undertook extensive training in meteorology, flight planning, navigation, aircraft operations, communications and many other operations specific subjects. This was then followed by a five-week practical period putting into practice everything that had been learnt in the theory phase.

Congratulating the RAF graduating course members on their achievements and presenting them with their certificates of competency at a special ceremony held on October 29 was Wing Commander Andy Sinclair, MA RAF, Air Traffic Control Chief of Staff at Headquarters Air Command, RAF High Wycombe. Daniel was joined at his graduation by his parents, Nigel and Jackie and sister, Michelle, who all live in Redditch. Daniel, who was a swimming instructor before joining the RAF, completed his basic recruit training at RAF Halton and is now posted to RAF Valley in North Wales, the home of the RAF Hawk pilot training school and Search and Rescue Force Headquarters.
