An exciting careers event for those interested in jobs in operating theatres is set to take place in Redditch this month.

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is inviting aspiring healthcare professionals and those interested in starting a career in theatres to come along and meet its team in Alexandra Hospital on Saturday, November 11.

The event will include presentations on theatre careers in the NHS along with apprenticeships and the many ways to progress careers across healthcare pathways.

The countywide recruitment and development lead at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, Andy Fryer, said: “This is an excellent opportunity to come along for an informal chat with our very friendly theatre team. There’s a great deal of excitement surrounding theatre careers in the county at the moment.”

The event’s recruitment and development lead, Chloe Smith, added: “Many careers in operating theatres are not well known. We hope that this event will allow people to discover our numerous specialities within anaesthetics, surgery and post-anaesthetic care.”

The theatre team will be available in the hospital’s Arafa Education Centre between 10am and 4pm with many members having joined the industry through different routes.

This includes apprentice operating department practitioner (ODP), Bethany Pope, who started working in the team in 2018 as a theatre assistant. After spending time working with ODPs, she decided to pursue the apprenticeship available at the trust which is funded by the Apprenticeship Levy.

Ms Pope, who is only three months away from qualifying and becoming a registered professional, said: “If you’re a theatre support worker, a qualified ODP, theatre nurse or are interested in starting a career working in our theatres then I would urge you to come along.

“We have a really friendly and supportive team and have several vacancies available in a number of roles at the Trust’s three sites. Visitors are free to drop in on the day at a time convenient to them.”
