A LADIES cycling club has raised more than £3,000 for two charities close to the group’s heart.
Members of Hopwood Ladies Cycling Club spent last year raising funds for two charities: Marie Curie and PAPYRUS.
The charities were chosen as a member of the club lost her husband to cancer and her son to suicide in 2021.
Various fund-raising events were organised, including a tea party, two skittles nights and a sponsored cycle ride from Henley in Arden to Weymouth.
Money raised from the West Midlands Cyclo Cross Round 6 event was donated to the charities too.
In total, the club raised a total of £3,050 which has been divided equally between the charities.
A spokesperson for the club said: “We know that these funds will help Marie Curie provide expert care, guidance and support to help people with a terminal illness, and their families, and get the most from the time they have left.
“The money we have raised for PAPYRUS will help run a confidential helpline service, HOPELINEUK, which offers practical confidential suicide prevention help and advice and support to young people who are struggling with life.”
Anne Johnson, the club’s charity coordinator added: “As a club, we had a lot of fun raising the money and would like to thank all those many people who supported us.”
