A NEW award celebrating the kindness of Redditch's unsung heroes has been launched, inspired by the generosity of a schoolgirl.

Redditch MP Rachel Maclean has launched the Act of Kindness Awards to shine a light on the good deeds which take place in Redditch, often unnoticed, every single day.

The awards have been inspired by the generosity of seven-year-old Esmee Allured from Redditch who over Christmas, collected hundreds of toys to give out to local children who might otherwise not have had presents.

The kind-hearted youngster also sold £150 of her own toys and gave the money to a local charity to buy meals for people in need.

In recognition of her acts of kindness, Esmee was the town’s first winner of the Prime Minister’s Points of Light Award but if it hadn’t been for Esmee’s mum emailing Rachel, her daughter’s efforts would never have received the recognition and praise she deserved.

Rachel Maclean MP said: “I have been inspired by Esmee’s acts of kindness, and I want to do more to recognise the everyday acts of kindness which often go unnoticed and unrecognised.

“I’ve therefore launched my very own Act of Kindness Awards where every month I will shine a light on the good deeds which take place in Redditch every single day.

“If there is someone you believe should be recognised then please visit my website where you can nominate them for an Act of Kindness Award.

“I look forward to hearing from you and shining a light on everyday acts of kindness.”

Residents can nominate individuals or groups for an Act of Kindness Award by completing the nomination form on the MP's website by visiting www.rachelmaclean.uk/act-of-kindness-awards/

Each month winners will receive a certificate from Rachel, as well as featuring on her website and social media channels.
