THE history of Studley will be celebrated by a new generation thanks to a week of events this month, culminating in a special performance.

Studley is hosting a range of creative workshops and talks from Monday, February 21 to Friday, February 25 as part of a project called ‘Our Studley Story’.

It aims to connect Studley’s young and old residents through their experiences of living in the village.

The creative workshops will be held through the week at Studley Sports and Social Club, and will give children a chance to learn about Studley’s history, and inspire them to create a musical performance.

And on the Friday, their production will be performed at the club at 6.30pm on its in-built stage in front of an audience.

Photography workshops will be held at the club during the week capturing the people, landmarks, and businesses in Studley over the years.

Studley-based theatre company Aunty Jen Productions will be overseeing the activities, with support from Shakespeare’s England.

Jennifer Rigby, artistic director at Aunty Jen Productions, said: “Studley is a village steeped in history, and we still have plenty of people living here who have wonderful memories of what it was like many years ago.

“We wanted to help connect their memories with the new generation of children growing up here and help them to understand just how much has changed – and what similarities there are too.

“We are looking forward to working with the children during February half term and helping them come up with a fantastic musical performance based around what they’ve learned. It’s a fantastic opportunity for them to embrace their creative side this half-term and to learn about the village they live in."

Glyn Slade, Welcome Back Event Manager from Shakespeare’s England, added: “We felt our Studley Story was a brilliant project for the Welcome Back Fund to get behind.

“Encouraging the village’s children to learn about history through a creative project is a really clever idea, and there’s activities for adults to enjoy as well with the history talks and photo workshops.

“We’ll be looking forward to seeing the final performance on the Friday – Aunty Jen Productions is a fantastic company and Jen and her staff will help the children come up with something truly memorable.”

All the workshops and talks are free, apart from the final performance which is £4 for adults and £2 for children.
