STEVE Adshead admitted senior players let Astwood Bank down this week after they lost out to Wolverhampton side Fordhouses by a slender 15 run margin in Birmingham League Division Two.

The result leaves the Bank cut adrift at the bottom of the table and Adshead accepted recent results were now having an effect on confidence.

He said: "Last season, this would have been a game we'd have won."

The Bank did well to restrict Fordhouses to 220 all out.

Former Walsall batsman Alex McChristie cracked 61 before the Bank clawed back the innings through highly rated 15-year-old left arm spinner Josh Baker who bagged figures of five for 24 from his 10 over spell.

But the Bank were short changed in reply when bowled out for 205.

Adshead hit 43 while 18-year-old wicketkeeper Connor Adams tried to keep the innings going but ran out of partners when on 51 not out.

Adshead added: "There was some really positive contributions by the youngsters but they were let down by their senior colleagues."

The Bank host Penkridge this Saturday and then visit Moseley-based Attock on Monday.
