THE Farm Animal Sanctuary in Tardebigge, which looks after rescued animals, is holding an event to raise money following the recent floods.

The sanctuary, in Stoney Lane, has to raise money to pay for damaged fences and hay which was ruined after flash floods hit the area.

Now volunteers will be holding a sale which includes toys, clothes, books, items of furniture, CDs and DVDs to meet rising costs.

Maureen Lawless, who runs the sanctuary, said: "The biggest problem is the hay crops that have been ruined by the torrential rain and some are even still underwater.

"The forecast is that hay will be scarce and prices will reach an all time high.

"Normally a bale of hay costs £2.50-£3, but dealers are predicting it will double.

She added: "Unless we can raise enough money it looks a grim future for our goats, sheep and horses."

The event is being held on Saturday at St Stephens Church Hall, Redditch town centre, from 10.30am-1.30pm.
