THE graves of children at Bordesley Lane Crematorium Centre have fallen victim to antisocial behaviour after a series of incidents involving the theft or movement of items and damage.

Staff have received several complaints of damage to grave sites over the last few months from visitors to the cemetery.

A Redditch Council spokesman said: "We have received recently reports of items being disturbed and damaged in one of the babies' sections in the cemetery.

"We have also been made aware of at least two items going missing from graves in this section. It is very distressing for the families involved."

A police spokesman added: "This sort of behaviour is thoughtless and unfeeling and can only cause further distress to those with friends and family in the cemetery, particularly when the graves of babies and children are targeted.

"We will be stepping up patrols in the area and hope that people will take reassurance from this."

Anyone with information relating to inappropriate activity at the cemetery is asked to call Redditch police, preferably as it is happening, on 08457 444888 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
