CHRISTINE Keeler, the model embroiled in the 1963 Profumo affair which saw former Stratford-on-Avon MP John Profumo forced to resign, has died.
Her son Seymour Platt said she died aged 75 late on Monday night, having suffered from a lung disease for the last few years.
Ms Keeler was at the centre of the 1963 political scandal, which enthralled and scandalised the nation, after having an affair with then-Secretary of State for War John Profumo.
He was forced to quit his job following lurid disclosures of high-society sex parties and claims he had shared his mistress with a Soviet defence attache.
After his resignation, Profumo worked as a volunteer at Toynbee Hall, a charity in East London and became its chief fundraiser.
These charitable activities helped to restore his reputation and he was appointed a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1975.
He died in 2006.
He was elected for Stratford-on-Avon, covering Alcester, Bidford and Studley, at the general election in February 1950.
