A MYSTERIOUS mural has been revealed following the destruction of the former Gaumont Cinema building in Redditch town centre.
The image, which appears to show a parrot, provides a tantalising glimpse into a possible treasure trove of artistic brilliance.
The puzzling art piece is located on the remaining gable end on the corner of Church Green West and Church Road.
Greg Bright, who spotted the unusual piece of art, said: "The photo shows an image of a parrot (I think) on a branch which has been exposed following demolition.
"It looks as if it was painted directly on an internal wall at the top of a staircase in the old cinema.
"A few things come to mind; does anyone in Redditch recognise the painting? Why was it there? Were there any other similar paintings in the building? Does anyone know who painted it?"
The Gaumont, which became Zetters Bingo in 1969, was built 80 years ago and at the time was the finest cinema in the town boasting beautiful architectural design and a large distinctive clock which for years kept Redditch and generations of people on time.
Gala Bingo took over in 1988 and it closed as a bingo hall in 1999, becoming a night club for a few years but then closed for good.
It is being demolished to make way for flats.
