A CYCLIST was rushed to hospital after being thrown over the handlebars of her bicycle in Redditch.

The woman, who is believed to be in her 20s, was seriously injured when she landed on the road.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Bates Hill, just before noon this morning (Tuesday, March 14).

An ambulance, a responder paramedic and two Midlands Air Ambulances, one with a MERIT trauma doctor on board, attended the scene.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "The woman suffered serious injuries and require advanced trauma care on scene by the team of ambulance staff.The woman was transferred to the land ambulance before being conveyed on blue lights to Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham for further emergency care."

About five police cars were also in attendance to manage crowd control as people swarmed the area to see what was happening.

No vehicles were involved in the crash.

Eyewitness Mike Dean spotted an air ambulance landing near to the train station, just after 1pm this afternoon.
