STAFF at Halfords in Redditch saddled up for a sponsored cycle ride in honour of a popular colleague, who suffered serious injuries in a recent crash.

Dave Winkett, who works in the People Development Team at Halfords Support Centre in Redditch, was riding his bike in Col du Galibier mountain pass whilst on holiday, when he came off and fell 30 metres down a cliff.

The 43-year-old sustained multiple injuries including bleeding on the brain and was in a coma for more than two weeks, finally regaining conciousness on Tuesday, August 2.

Since the crash, Halfords staff have been fundraising to help with Mr Winkett's recovery.

They chose to hold a sponsored ride following one of his favourite routes.

They travelled from the support centre in Redditch to the Cotswolds and back, a distance of about 55 miles, and riders could also choose shorter routes. About 40 riders took part in the event.
