POLICE have released CCTV footage after a pitch invasion at a recent Redditch United football game.

West Mercia Police is appealing for witnesses and the victim of an assault to come forward following the incident.

Redditch United played Leamington FC at the Valley Stadium, Bromsgrove Road, Redditch, in the Southern League Premier Play-off semi final on April, 27.

During the game there were reports of some minor problems between Redditch and Leamington fans near to the Cedar Road stand resulting in security staff being employed in this area.

The game went to penalties which Leamington won and a small minority of Leamington fans invaded the pitch.

A local Redditch teenager is believed to have ran on the pitch and punched a Leamington fan in the face and pushed him over.

The offender has been interviewed by police and is assisting with investigations.

The victim left the field while police were dealing with the incident and has not come forward.

He is being asked to get in touch.

After the match approximately 30 fans of each side were in the roadway between the ground and Bromsgrove Road goading each other, resulting in 15 police officers being deployed to the area to prevent any potential problems.

A police spokesman said: "It is clear that a small minority of spectators were intent on causing disorder on the night and due to the good planning of both clubs this has been well managed."

"The police acted and intervened when needed and it is sad that the minority spoilt the enjoyment for the majority of fans watching a fantastic game of football."

They appealed for anyone who has video footage or witnessed any incidents during the game to get in touch.
