A DRIVER has died after a crash between lorry and a car on a Redditch road.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the crash on the Alders Drive at about 8am this morning (Monday, April 25).

A black Nissan Qashqai was travelling along Alders Drive in the direction of Winyates Green when it was in collision with a white Mercedes lorry travelling in the opposite direction.

Sadly, the driver of the car - a man in his 40s - died at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

The lorry driver was not injured.

The road was closed for several hours whilst emergency services worked at the scene and has now been reopened.

A spokesman from West Mercia Police said: "Sadly, the driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene."

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “When the ambulance crew arrived, they found a police officer carrying out CPR on the car driver.

“The ambulance staff took over, but it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“Both vehicles were badly damaged.

“The man driving the lorry was checked over by ambulance staff but was unhurt, if badly shaken by the incident.”

Police have appealed for anyone who may have witnessed the collision or who may have seen either vehicle prior to the collision to get in touch.
