A KIND-HEARTED Redditch councillor has helped more than 100 families to get their children kitted out for school after setting up a swap shop.
Greenlands Ward Labour Councillor Joe Baker held the event at AnnaLiz Vintage in Church Road, recently with help from fellow Councillor Wanda King and a small number of volunteers.
Parents of all backgrounds, struggling with their finances, came along with or without donations and they were able to pick up uniforms for their children.
Cllr Baker has spent the last six months collecting unwanted school uniforms from residents and borough schools after appealing to the public for donations.
He received an overwhelming response from the public and a local store generously donated shoes, socks, jumpers and coats.
Cllr Baker described the event as a success and said he was “overwhelmed" with the result.
“As a local councillor I have a responsibility to help the people I represent, I recognise that actions speak loader than words,” he said.
He added that the swapping events will be taking place after each term and the next one will be held near Christmas along with a Christmas meal event for those residents in his ward.
Anyone wishing to donate unwanted uniforms can contact Councillor Joe Baker on 07891549333 or drop them off at AnnaLiz Vintage.
