PEOPLE in Redditch and Bromsgrove are being urged to join a fundraising campaign which has raised millions for Cancer Research UK.

Stand Up to Cancer, a joint campaign run with Channel 4, was launched in the UK in 2012 and has raised £23.8 million for the charity.

The campaign is backed by a host of celebs including TV presenter Kirstie Allsopp, whose mother died of cancer.

The Location, Location, Location presenter cleared out her clutter to run a fundraising sale.

“Over the years I have accumulated a lot of things that I love but really don’t need so it was great to find new homes for it all while raising money for a cause that’s very dear to me,” she said.

“We had all kinds of treasures for sale and fun activities to make sure people had lots of opportunities to spend money.

“I'm asking everyone in Worcestershire and across the UK to join me and make a stand. There are so many ways you can get involved, with friends, family and workmates.”

Cancer Research UK spokesman for Worcestershire Paula Young said: “One in two people in the UK will develop cancer at some point in their lives and with cancer incidence set to rise steeply by 2030, there’s still much more to do to ensure no-one’s life is cut short.

“That’s why we need everyone to join us and make a stand against cancer now.”

The campaign will culminate with an evening of programming on Channel 4 on October 9.
