ORGANISERS of St Leonard’s Church’s annual Snowdrop Festival in February are urging people to save the date for a weekend which will appeal to families and those with an interest in gardens, history and photography.

Next year’s event takes place on Valentine’s weekend – Saturday and Sunday, February 14 and 15 and will feature the snowdrop covered church grounds as well as sales of plants and other spring flowers.

In addition, visitors will be able to enjoy seeing a number of eye-catching and interesting displays in the church.

People can view the winning photos from this years calendar competition, a talk on how to research family history, by expert Michael Sharpe from the Bromsgrove Branch of the Birmingham and Midland Society for Genealogy and Heraldry (Saturday pm only), original birth, marriage and death records from 1800 on loan from Worcester Archive and Archaeology Service and results of research which is being done on the names of those who died in the Great War on the war memorial outside the church - and some actual copies of church magazines produced before the war

There will also be examples of the intricate work done by craft groups, a display by the Mothers Union and people can view the famous tombs of the Sheldon family who were influential landowners in the 16th and 17th centuries.

The event is open from 10am until 4.30pm on Saturday and from 12.30pm until 4pm on Sunday, with refreshments on offer throughout in the Tapestry Room.

The Rev Paul Irving said: “This will actually be the first time I will have been present at the Snowdrop Weekend as I only arrived last spring, so the family are really looking forward to it.”

“Everyone loves snowdrops as they are such a welcome sign that spring is well and truly on its way. We hope that people will come along and enjoy this event with us.”

A special marriage affirmation service will also be happening at 5.30pm for couples wishing to renew their vows.
