WORK to extend and refurbish the Sainsbury’s store in Redditch is almost complete.

The new-look store will include a single storey extension accommodating a customer restaurant, toilet facilities and an Explore Learning centre offering tailored English and maths tuition for five to 14-year-olds while parents shop at the store.

The car park has been resurfaced and features larger parent and child and disabled parking bays to allow easier access for customers.

A number of sustainability features have also been installed to reduce the carbon footprint of the store.

The new and improved store is due to open at 9am on Wednesday, November 26.

Tim Smedley, store manager, said: “I’d like to thank our customers for their understanding and patience while work has been going on.

"The improvements are nearly complete and we are really looking forward to welcoming everyone to our extended store, which will provide a wider range of products and ultimately a better shopping experience for our customers.”

He added: “Since 2007 Sainsbury’s has consistently invested in energy reduction and renewable energy projects in its supermarkets. We want to be known as the UK’s greenest grocer and our stores’ new environmentally friendly features will help carbon emissions continue to drop whilst we continue to grow.”

So that the final improvement work can be completed, the store will be closed for one week, from 6pm on Tuesday, November 18 until the store re-opens on Wednesday, November 26.

This will allow Sainsbury’s to remove and replace all existing shelving and complete other remaining jobs that can’t take place while customers are present.
