YOUNGSTERS from Moon's Moat First School recently stepped back in time and became evacuees for the day.

As part of a World War Two topic children and staff got into character by dressing up in costumes before they were evacuated on a steam train along the Severn Valley Railway.

Pupils then spent the day finding out what life was like during the war.

This included discovering what an evacuee would have packed in their suitcase, experiencing an air raid in an Anderson shelter, taking part in some wartime housework and even got the chance to do some fire fighting.

A school spokesman said everyone involved had a good time.

"After a busy day the evacuees travelled back on the train, singing wartime songs as they went, before a performance of God Save the King at the train station to finish the day," she said.
