THE Alcester Singers are staging a concert in Alcester on Saturday, March 1 with invited guests the Warwickshire County Boys’ Choir and the County Male Voices.

The concert will be taking place in St Nicholas’ Church with the award-winning choirs giving a performance filled with a mixture of songs from both modern and classical repertoires, including everything from the Pie Jesu by Gabriel Faure, to the well known children’s song ‘I Know an Old Woman Who Swallowed a Fly’.

The Warwickshire County Boys’ Choir is made up of more than 100 boys between the ages of eight and 14, who perform along with the County Choristers, a collection of approximately 70 of the more experienced members of the choir. The boys reached the grand final of the BBC Choir of the Year competition in 2010 getting to perform at the Royal Festival Hall, and since then they’ve toured France, Belgium and Germany, as well as releasing three CDs of their music.

The County Male Voices grew out of the success of the boys’ choir in 2012, encouraging and developing more than 50 young men to sing with appearances at Symphony Hall, Birmingham in the national finals of Music for Youth where they won the National Partnership Award for Senior Choirs.

Both choirs will be performing alongside Alcester Singers, a local choir which performs concerts in and around Alcester three times a year.

Tickets for the concert, which starts at 7.30pm, are £10, and can be purchased by calling 0845 5482523 or on the door at St Nicholas’ Church. Under 14’s will be able to enter free of charge.
