A REDDITCH-based recycling charity held an official opening for its new re-use shop on Hewell Road this month.

Boomerang, which works to stop goods and resources going to landfill by selling them on to new owners, has been working out of a base in Beaufort Street in Redditch since 2007, with volunteers ready to collect or deliver items around the area, as well as carrying out minor repairs and refurbishments to furniture and material it receives.

According to Worcestershire County Council, last year the charity saved 70 tonnes of material from landfill in Redditch, and now the charity has found a larger premises to help them grow in Redditch.

Redditch borough councillor Joe Baker and Labour parliamentary candidate Rebecca Blake, came along to officially open the new shop.

He said: “In this economic climate it is great to see that Boomerang and their volunteers are doing their utmost to help the environment, but most importantly giving help to the people that are most in need of a little bit of financial help."

Rebecca Blake added: "It is good to see local charity Boomerang going from strength to strength. Although waste going to landfill is falling, we are still using and disposing of resources at an unsustainable rate. Now Boomerang have moved to better and bigger premises I am sure they will be even more successful at reducing waste and helping people to re-use items at affordable prices".
