THE Bromsgrove to Redditch carriageway is to stay closed while police investigate the cause of a serious collision on the A448 Bromsgrove to Redditch Highway earlier this morning.

Two fire crews from Redditch and one from Bromsgrove attended, arriving to find a single car had left the carriageway and was on its roof in trees in an embankment, with the male driver trapped inside it. Police also attended the incident along with paramedics, the HART team and a doctor.

Watch Commander Jon Laight from HWFRS said: “This was a challenging extrication due to the position of the car, but our crews worked extremely well with each other and with the other agencies to release the driver.”

He confirmed that the man was cut free from the vehicle just before 8am and that he was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham by land ambulance with leg injuries.

While the A448 was initially closed in both directions, the Redditch to Bromsgrove carriageway has now re-opened.
