WITNESSES and information are sought following a racially motivated assault on a Redditch taxi driver.

It happened at about 12.30am on Saturday, November 3, in Bromsgrove Road.

The driver picked up four youths from the Red Lion pub in Enfield Road just after midnight. While they were in the taxi they made various racial comments directed at the driver.

The taxi pulled over outside Oasis Dental Care Ltd in Bromsgrove Road and the four youths got out. They then dragged the driver from his seat and assaulted him, leaving him with bruising and facial injuries.

The four youths are white and thought to be in their mid-late teens.
The taxi driver attended Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment.

DS Gary Mole of Redditch CID said: "This was a nasty attack which appears to have been unprovoked.

"We’d like to hear from anyone who remembers seeing these youths in the Red Lion at about midnight or thinks they saw the assault taking place shortly afterwards in Bromsgrove Road."

Anyone with information should call Det Sgt Mole on the non-emergency number 101, quoting incident reference 645-S-031112, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
