REDDITCH Shopmobility is celebrating after raising more than £600 during its annual Flag Day in the Kingfisher Shopping Centre.

Flag Day is an important fundraising event for Redditch Shopmobility and the people that use the service, which is run by Redditch Council.

The money raised goes towards funding the Redditch Shopmobility service, which lends manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs and powered scooters to the public with limited mobility to shop and to visit leisure and commercial facilities within Redditch town centre.

As well as having collectors in and around the town centre, there was a market stall on Church Green selling new and used goods. Redditch Shopmobility also had their biggest ever tombola in Worcester Square, with all 200 prizes being won in a few hours.

Over £600 was raised on the day, nearly £200 more than last year.

Councillor Bill Hartnett, Redditch Council leader, said: “Anyone who has difficulty walking is eligible to register for the Shopmobility service, such as people with disabilities, older people, and those recovering from an accident or illness.

“We had a great Flag Day and would like to say a big thank you to all the people who donated gifts and helped us collect donations – we wouldn’t be able to maintain this vital service without them.”
