MOST acknowledge the music industry has changed almost beyond recognition in the past few years.

Facebook and MySpace have become the weapons of choice for up-and-coming bands wanting to get their music out there, over the demo tapes and posters which had dominated for so many years.

So it must be quite a shock coming back into it after a break of six years - but that’s what Dave Halloran has done.

Originally the bass player for Worcester band B*Movie Heroes, he’d put his guitar down when other things took over.

And that was that, until six months ago when he was approached to join Rebel City Radio - a band of Birmingham musicians who were lacking a bass player.

“They sent me some demos, and I went along and met them,” he explained. “We kind of clicked.”

Since then, Halloran has rediscovered his passion for music.

The band had already written and recorded demos for their debut album Hello Hypocrite, Hypocrite Hello, so it just fell to Halloran to slot into place.

But when it came to their first live show - up at the River Rooms in Stourbridge at the end of April - it was a little more of a case of nerves for the 33-year-old.

Halloran said: “Stourbridge was my first show in quite a few years. It was quite reassuring everything still checked out.”

The band are now looking forward to two Worcester gigs - the first at the Marr’s Bar on Saturday, May 21, and the second at Keystones on Friday, June 3.

And let’s not forget, there is also the small matter of an album coming out later in the summer and a number of interested labels - although this, in particular, is where the change in the times is noticeable.

“It’s not like it was before - anyone can release an album. You don’t need to sign to a label, you can do it all yourself. Now you can do a song, upload it to the web and in 20 minutes someone can be watching it in Japan,” Halloran shrugged. “So I’m not sure what we’ll do.”

For their fans then, it is a case of wait and see.
