EVEN as an adult approaching Cadbury World feels as though you are about to enter Willy Wonker's marvellous chocolate factory, writes Ben Russell.

The smell of chocolate hits your first, even before you get anywhere near the entrance.

Then once inside there are treats for all the senses, not just the nose.

It's hard to imagine a time when Cadbury World, which opened its doors in 1990 (making 2015 its 25th anniversary), isn't busy.

And today, a Sunday, is no exception with hundreds if not thousands of people set to arrive.

This popular family attraction, based in the historic village of Bournville, just outside Birmingham city centre, really does boast something for everyone.

A typical visit sees a good mix of old, the actual factory which is still used, and the new, such as a number of different zones.

Throughout, visitors get to learn about the history of the attraction and how it began as well as experience the magic and making of Cadbury chocolate.

There is the chance to watch the chocolatiers at work as they demonstrate traditional chocolate making skills - and of course sample some of the goods.

If the smell upon arrival doesn't fill you up there are more than enough opportunities to get your fill of chocolate while inside.

The attraction is home to the world's biggest Cadbury shop, home to all the classic Cadbury products as well as a range of chocolaty goodness you can't find anywhere else, for a decent price.

There are 14 zones people can visit which gives visitors of all ages something to see and do; from uncovering the fascinating story of Cadbury chocolate to climbing on board a magical Cadabra ride, and even meeting the infamous drumming gorilla.

These are all very well thought out and featured helpful and friendly staff, some in costume.

In 2014, Cadbury World invested £2m into the creation of a new and unique 4D zone which takes visitors on an adventurous journey allowing them to experience the feeling of diving into a pot of melted Cadbury Dairy Milk chocolate. Well, what else would it be?

This is probably something to avoid if you've spent your day eating nothing but chocolate.

But, also something that proved very popular on the day with quite lengthy queues.

If all that wasn't enough there are regular shows in a covered area outside, next to a children's play area.

Right now classic children’s TV character Count Duckula is visiting in his first ever live entertainment show.

Complete with spooky songs, ghoulish games and plenty of fang-tastic jokes along the way, show follows the adventures of the eccentric vegetarian vampire, and gets the balance right for both youngsters and adults.

With the average visit lasting three plus hours there is so much to see and do there is no way anyone could get bored.

If you've never been before a trip to Cadbury World is a definite must.

And while it may not be exactly the same as a trip to Mr Wonker's secretive chocolate factory you'll be in for scrumdiddlyumptious time.
