TV builder Tommy Walsh arrested after confronting men 'urinating in a garden'

Tommy has appeared as a builder in a number of television shows, including BBC garden makeover programme Ground Force alongside Alan Titchmarsh and Charlie Dimmock.

According to reports, the 58-year-old was with his son Jonjo, 28, after the pair had gone to a local pub in east London on Friday evening. Tommy then had an “altercation” with the men.

A police spokesman told the Press Association: “Police were called to Lauriston Road, E9 at 23.00hrs on Friday 29 January following reports of a fight.

“Officers attended and found a man in his 30s suffering from an ear injury following an altercation with two men. He was taken to hospital for a check-up but was not seriously injured.

“One man aged in his 50s was later arrested on suspicion of ABH (actual bodily harm) and taken to a local police station for questioning.

“He has since been bailed to a date in mid-March. Inquiries are ongoing.”

Tommy told The Mail on Sunday: “I saw them as I was coming home and I said, that’s bang out of order. It’s disgusting. My neighbour’s kids play in that garden.”

He said the men “came out into the street at me aggressively”.

Tommy explained: “I felt threatened and there was an altercation. It was just handbags and pulling shirts and things, nothing really.

“It was over really quickly – no punching or kicking or anything. Afterwards one of the guys was bleeding a bit so I brought him into my house and got him a plaster for his ear.

“He was all apologetic at first but then he started to get aggressive again so I ushered him out of the door.”

Tommy said that 20 minutes later, the police arrived to arrest him as the man had complained.

“I couldn’t believe it. I thought it was a joke,” he said.

He added: “The police were very polite and understanding but they have procedures to follow. But you can’t have people urinating in front gardens – it’s immoral. There is a public loo in the park 250 yards away.”
