MOEEN Ali's first ICC World Cup is over after he was ruled out of England's final Pool 'A' match against Afghanistan in Sydney on Friday through injury.
A scan revealed the Worcestershire all-rounder suffered a side strain while bowling during England's 15-run defeat against Bangladesh in Adelaide on Monday.
Moeen has been an ever-present during England's five World Cup fixtures and, before that, the seven one-day internationals in Sri Lanka and the Tri-Series against Australia and India Down Under during January.
The 27-year-old will be re-assessed when he returns to the United Kingdom and will be hoping the injury does not stop him being part of next month's tour of the West Indies.
Fellow all-rounder Chris Woakes will also miss the Afghanistan match with a foot injury sustained during the Bangladesh match that sealed England's elimination from the competition.
An England and Wales Cricket Board statement read: "Scans revealed Woakes has a left third metatarsal stress reaction and Moeen has a left sided abdominal strain.
"Both players have been ruled out of the match against Afghanistan on Friday and will be re-assessed when the team returns to the UK."
Moeen scored his first World Cup century in the victory over Scotland, which was the only win England have managed in five matches.
