FOR one day only every year Ludlow’s glorious secret gardens open up to the public.

This year, people can explore an eclectic selection of gardens in Corve Street, Linney, Upper Linney, and Mill Street.

Between them they offer a wealth of horticultural delights as well as spectacular views of Ludlow Castle, St Laurence’s Church and the River Teme.

Now entering its 26th year, the event boasts five new gardens never before open to the public.

After an afternoon of wandering these pleasant surroundings, you can enjoy afternoon tea in Maryvale’s spacious garden, while plants, greetings cards and ice creams are on sale in other gardens.

The Mini Museum at 25 Mill Street makes a welcome return with its intriguing collection of old restored woodworking tools and artefacts that shine a light on unusual pieces of horticultural history.

Secret Gardens is run by Ludlow Assembly Rooms Fundraising Events (LARFE) and is their biggest annual event.

Last year, almost 2,000 people participated, from places as far afield as Surrey and Norfolk.

“We are thrilled with this year’s line-up for Secret Gardens of Ludlow,” said Cy Jones, the organiser of the event.

Since it began in 1990, the event has grown year-on-year and has become a real fixture on people’s calendars.

The Secret Gardens are open on Sunday, June 14 between noon and 6pm. Tickets are £6.50 including a map and children under 12 are free but must be accompanied by an adult. Dogs are not allowed.
