BROMSGROVE Sporting boss Tim Flowers was full of praise for the club despite being axed with a game of the season still to go.

The Southern League Premier Division Central club's executive board are looking at a big overhaul after flirting with relegation.

Former England goalkeeper Flowers came in to successfully keep Sporting up thanks to Saturday's 2-1 win at high-flying Stratford Town.

He said: "Credit to everybody. It's been a monumental effort.

"There's a million thank yous, the supporters definitely. Certainly, all the players and everybody who has been around at training and helped out with numbers and all the directors who have been first-class to me.

"It's a big football club and if somebody gives it a nudge and it opens an eye then it could be a beast."

The ex-Solihull Moors boss and Premier League winner with Blackburn Rovers as a keeper, who arrived in February, already knew he would be leaving after being told last week and a new manager will be announced soon.

Chairman Rod Brown said: “Following a process that lasted a few weeks, we have made this very difficult decision.

"We felt that the team requires a complete rebuild, similar to the situation we have within the club as a whole.

“I would like to place on record the professionalism of Tim in agreeing to stay this weekend to help us secure our step three status in the Southern Central League with a positive performance and result.

“We would like to thank Tim, who was appointed as interim manager until the end of the season, and we commend him for his efforts under very difficult circumstances. We wish him every success in the future.”

There will also be changes at board level with long-standing members Phil Baker and John Smith both giving notice that they will be standing down at the end of this season but they will continue to help out around the club.

And Rob McLaren, who helped start the Sporting project in 2008, is returning to the board after a successful spell with Alvechurch.

Baker, who was part of the initial group that set up Sporting, has also headed up safety and security at the club and been company secretary during his 15 years.

Smith has overseen boardroom hospitality and been the licensee for the Rousler Bar.

A club statement said it "cannot thank them both enough for all their devoted efforts over the years — the club owes them both a debt of gratitude".

Brown added: “I have known Rob for a long time and admired what he has helped Alvechurch to achieve with his skillsets.

“Rob will be responsible for identifying and gaining grants to further enhance the club’s sustainability plus take full responsibility for match-day facilitation on safety and security.”
