MANAGER Simon Redhead admits he’s feeling the pressure to turn around Redditch United’s poor start to the season.

United have endured a frustrating campaign so far with only two wins in Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division as well as early exits from the FA Cup and Trophy.

Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat to Hemel Hempstead at the Valley Stadium only increased the strain on Redhead, who only returned to the United hot-seat in the summer.

But Tuesday's 2-1 win at St Neots will have alleviated the pressure on Redditch.

They will be desperate to bag their first home win of the campaign when they entertain AFC Totton on Saturday (3pm ko), before a testing trip to Premier Division runaway leaders Stourbridge in the Red Insure Cup next Tuesday (7.45pm ko).

“No one puts more pressure on me than myself to get things right,” said Redhead.

“Ultimately, this is a results business and that’s what makes the difference.

“Getting that next win is massive for us.”

Redhead has already set about freshening up his squad by releasing Mark Danks and Aaron Stringfellow.

Midfielder Stuart Hendrie, who played a key part in United’s relegation battle last season, has returned after a spell at Stourbridge, while midfielder Mark Hands joined from Studley and right-back Gary Moran has also signed from Rugby Town.

They also drafted in Joel Grandison.

Redditch are also still hopeful of bolstering their strike force this week.

The manager admitted he’s had to change United’s style in order to cope with the rigours of the league.

“On paper we built a team which looked capable of challenging for promotion,” added the manager.

“In truth we’ve not been strong enough and that’s something we’re trying to change.

“We’ve played well several times and not got the results we’ve deserved.

“But we’ve only played well once at home this season against Leamington and have not really replicated that form.

“I understand the fans frustration and I hope they remain patient as we change things.”

Redhead also stressed his close working relationship with chairman Chris Swan, who during his 20 month spell at Redditch has already worked with several managers including Martin Sockett and Graham Hyde.

Redhead said: “I talk with the chairman almost every day and certainly after every game.

“He understands this is a results business but he’s trying to make sure the club does not spend beyond their means.”
