STOURBRIDGE FC continued their resurgence under the new management team after booking their place in the Buildbase FA Trophy first-round draw thanks to a 1-0 win at local rivals Redditch United in their third round qualifying tie on Saturday.

The Glassboys have enjoyed an upturn in results in recent weeks and since Leon Broadhurst and Stuart Pierpoint have come in as joint managers, they have scored four and conceded none in back-to-back wins.

They have won six of their last eight games in all competitions and will now look forward to the first round draw this afternoon after Reese Styche's second-half strike sealed a 1-0 win at The Trico Stadium last weekend.

Redditch had their chances in the game and Dan Sweeney hit the post and had a shot tipped over the bar ion the first-half but Stour held firm and struck just after the break.

Just four minutes had past into the second period when Styche brilliantly found the top left corner from inside the box to give the visitors the lead.

Stour's keeper Charlie Price made a great save to keep Sweeney out once more with time running out and eventually the away side held on to progress into the first-round draw on Monday, 1pm.

Also into the first-round draw are Bromsgrove Sporting, who enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 home win over Ilkeston Town.

Headed goals from Joel Kettle and Nathan Hayward either side of the half-time whistle were enough for the Rouslers, who did have Kettle sent-off with 15 minutes to play.

But it did not dampen the mood as Sporting began life without manager Brendan Kelly in the best possible way and now await their first round opposition.

Elsewhere, Alvechurch were dumped out by Chasetown after letting a one-nil lead slip to lose 2-1.

A cagey first-half ended goalless before the goals came quickly after the restart.

First, Church went ahead in the 47th minute thanks to Charlie Dowd's strike but the hosts were level just a minute later when Jack Langston struck it home on the half volley.

A hectic start to the second half continued as The Scholars went in front on 55 minutes as Langston’s deflected effort from outside the box was beyond the despairing dive of Dan Jezeph in the Church goal.

Sam McLintock rattled the post late on but it was not enough for the visitors, who bow out of the Trophy.

Worcester News will have the first-round draw in full at 1pm on Monday.
