Redditch United hosted Barwell at The Trico as they looked to build on their 1-0 winning performance against Biggleswade.

Redditch started to gain a foothold in the game after 15 minutes, however, none of the shots troubled the Barwell keeper, Max Bramley.

In the 21st minute, Sweeney went on a brilliant solo run, he broke into the box on the left hand side and was taken down by the Barwell defender. He stepped up to take the spot kick and converted as he passed it into the right of the net as cool as ice writes Tia Duckworth.

A few minutes later, Kieren Westwood looped a great cross to Tiago, who took it down well and unleashed a vicious half volley but it was straight at Max Bramley who parried it down into the floor and away.

Barwell grew into the latter part of the first half as they kept possession really well, but couldn’t create a chance of any significance. A few minutes before the end of the first half, a Luke Cox header was met by the outside of the left post. Redditch took the one goal lead into the first half.

Barwell started the second half much stronger than their first half, as they kept the ball and played around Redditch as The Reds sat deep. However, they didn’t create any chances that really troubled Max Harris in the goal, as The Reds defence stayed resolute.

Redditch created chances on the counter attack after Kieran Day won the ball back, drove with the ball and played a through ball out wide on the right to Sweeney who latched onto the end of it, his shot was fired just wide of the far post.

A chance for Barwell came with 10 mins of the game to go as they worked it well down the right hand side. A shot from Joel Carta was fired high into the side netting from a tight angle. Another chance for the visitors as a through ball into Lucas Powell split the defence, he tried to place his shot low but Max Harris came out well and denied him with his leg.

Barwell got their goal in the final minutes of the game as a cross from Dominic Brown-Hill found its way into the goal after an unforced error from Max Harris.

In the dying moments of the game, there were red cards for each team. After unpleasant scenes with a big coming together, Dan Sweeney and Jahvan Davidson-Miller were sent off once it had calmed down.

A heart breaking and disappointing result for Redditch as they'll have felt that the game was there for the taking. Barwell had the fair share of possession in the second half, however they didn't really create any clear cut chances until the final 5 minutes or so of the game. Redditch sat and absorbed pressure, as they stayed strong defensively until an unforced error from Max Harris saw the scoreline level.

Next up for The Reds is Peterborough Sports, the league leaders, as we host them at The Trico on Saturday September 25.
