It was a fairly even start to the game as both teams looked to assert their dominance, Redditch just edged it in terms of chances created. In the 20th minute though, Yate Town created a great opportunity and delivered through their number 9.
After a brilliantly placed through ball from Tumelty, Sims-Burgess latches onto it, Boucher came to close the angle but he calmly lifted it over him into the back of the net writes Tia Duckworth.
The game sprung into life and two minutes later in the 22nd minute, Redditch equalised. The ball was won back deep in the Yates half, Nabi travelled with the ball and played a through ball into Chay Tilts path. Andrew Hannah came out to shut the angle but Tilt does well and much like the Yates goal, slots it past the keeper high into the net.
Redditch pressed on and in the 35th minute, Tiago came agonisingly close to taking the lead. He picked the ball up on the right, cut in onto his favoured left and curled a delightful shot to the top left corner but it flew centimetres above the upper corner. Meaning a fairly even half came to an end and the teams went in at the break one a piece.
Redditch started the second half like they finished the first and with 60 minutes on the clock they found the breakthrough. A well timed run from Curtis Hutson split the two Yate centre backs and Tilt played the ball through to him . He took the ball to the left of the six yard box and finished it expertly past the keeper.
The Reds continued to assert their dominance with chances created, this time with Dennis Digie thundering a strike from outside of the box but it whistled wide of the left post.
With 5 minutes to go, Tilt showed great determination to steal the ball back and drove to the box, his curling effort was tipped over well by Andrew Hannah.
The game ended with a 2-1 victory to Redditch United after they capped off their preseason with a strong performance against a Yate Town side who are at the same competitive level. The Reds were resolute defensively in the second half as they gave away very few chances.
Up next is the start of the league season against Hitchin Town at The Trico, Saturday 14th August
