LIVE: Tividale v Worcester City

Our live feed has now finished.

  • FT: Tividale 0 City 1 (Brain 64p)
  • SEAN Brain fired City into the last eight of the Midland Football League Cup but got upstaged by the club's cameraman during a 1-0 win at Tividale.
  • Volunteer Rich Widdowson ditched his equipment to take over as assistant referee when man-in-the-middle Charlie Dickens went down injured with 10 minutes to play, preventing the tie from being abandoned.
  • Earlier, Brain had gone from villain to hero by bagging and scoring the winning penalty having also been sin-binned two minutes before half-time.
  • Victory was fully deserved after a dominant display in which City limited the hosts to a couple of chances while creating the bulk of the openings on a tricky surface with fog descending throughout the night.
  • While it was far from a classic, the much-changed visitors exerted an element of control throughout with squad players putting forward credible arguments for more regular starts.
  • Keeper Gabriel Bajrami, Joe Hawkins, Connor Mooney, Joel Caines, Jordan Harrison and Josh Willis came in with Dan Jezeph, Kurtis Mewies, Liam Lockett and ex-Tivi striker Demetri Brown on the bench.
  • Marco Adaggio and Chris Withington missed out through illness.
  • Birthday boy Sam Hall almost had reason for a double celebration only to see his firm downward header from a Luke English free-kick cleared in front of the line as City started brightly.
  • Curtis Cocking slammed in from a corner in Tividale’s first attack but the whistle had already gone for a foul.
  • City pressure kept coming but fizzling out on the edge of the box until the 23rd minute when Willis’s free-kick was crashed across goal by Craig Jones only for keeper Adam Harrison to spectacularly claw it against the angle of post and bar with one hand.
  • Jordan Harrison might have done better with a clear route to goal but stumbled at a key moment and having had all of the play, City almost paid the price for being wasteful five minutes before half-time.
  • A routine ball caught the backline napping and Darragh Bustin cut in from the left of the box but his finish skipped wide of the far post when clean through.
  • Brain missed 10 minutes either side of the interval for having too much to say but City still probed with 10 men, livewire Mooney having a goal ruled out for offside following smart footwork from a Hawkins flick-on.
  • Mooney unleashed a crisp shot that Adam Harrison clutched and Joe Caines forced the Tivi stopper to beat away with a rocket from distance.
  • The hosts simply could not get out and the breakthrough came when Brain dinked up and Dickens had no hesitation in awarding what proved to be decisive penalty for handball, Brain slotting low to the right of centre.
  • Cocking had a shot charged down having burst on to a second ball during a rare Tividale attack but little happened during Widdowson's stint on the line as City's last-eight berth was comfortably sealed.
  • TONIGHT'S OTHER RESULTS
  • Southern League Premier Division Central: Alvechurch 0-3 Stourbridge, Bromsgrove Sporting 7-1 Redditch United.
  • Hellenic League Premier Division: Westfields 2-1 Bishop's Cleeve.
