SAM Lewis could be fit in time for Warriors to face Wasps after avoiding a fracture in a bruising battle at Saracens.

It was feared the back row had suffered bone damage to his face but his improved prognosis will be a shot in the arm on the back of a lengthy injury list of late.

Prop Callum Black set for “six to eight weeks” on the sidelines following a visit to a specialist about his ankle problem with wing Melani Nanai likely to have his shoulder reassessed after an injection before the turn of the year.

Nanai and hooker Niall Annett “will definitely be out for a period”, while prop Conor Carey unsurprisingly will not see action again this season but centre Ryan Mills is improving having allayed fears of a fracture in his foot.

“Conor Carey has ruptured his Achilles so he will be out for the season,” reported director of rugby Alan Solomons.

“There is no fracture to Sam Lewis’s cheekbone or his eye socket which is positive. He will not be considered this week but may come into contention next week.

“Niall Annett had a labral tear and they are trying to put him through rehab. It is a similar kind of injury to Melani Nanai’s so they will definitely be out for a period.

“We have to consider having them seen by a specialist and then we have to take decisions as to how to progress with them both.

“Callum Black is probably going to be out for six to eight weeks. We are hoping he may possibly be fit for the next block of Premiership games, certainly not this block.

“Fortunately, Millsy has no fracture to the foot having come off at half-time. There is a bit of fluid in the tendon and he won’t be considered for this weekend.”
