DEMETRI Brown will have his rolled ankle assessed ahead of Worcester City’s trip to Coventry Sphinx on Saturday (3pm).

The frontrunner got hit by a meaty challenge on the halfway line during the first half of Wednesday’s 6-0 Midland Football League Premier Division win over Lye Town.

Brown had been part of City’s first unchanged side of the season and put in tenacious work to create space for others, particularly with runs into the channels.

That graft helped City get off to a perfect start en route to making it 15 goals without reply in two league matches following Saturday’s 9-0 bashing of Racing Club Warwick.

And manager Ashley Vincent was relieved to report the Brown’s initial prognosis looked favourable with a busy schedule ahead.

“He went back on to try to run it off, as he went down he got a bit of a roll on it,” said Vincent.

“We don’t think it is serious at all and hope it is something that will clear up quite quickly.

“On a warm day he would probably been able to run it off but it stiffened up in the cold.

“We are quite hopeful about Saturday but you never quite know until 24 hours later and we will be checking on it sooner rather than later.

“We don’t expect it to be any more than a week, you can never be sure but the initial signs are good other than him not being able to get it mobile enough to carry on.”

Vincent was also happy to see his side carry on from where they left off having racked up the club’s biggest win in 43 years over the weekend.

“I think the feeling from Saturday would have been halved if we had not followed it up,” he added.

“To be honest we would have taken another solid performance and a 1-0 win but we were ruthless again with our chances.

“We were probably not as fluent with the ball but it was a cold night on a bobbly pitch and we still created chances and were clinical.

“I am happy with that and the mentality that we must follow up displays like Saturdays with another one, knowing that the first would have been forgotten and would not have had the same value if we didn’t.

“It is not so much about the opponents you come up against, everyone has 11 men that are going to try and huff and puff at the very least.

“If my side gets the ball down and plays like we want them to, with an energy and a clinical edge then we will be more than a match for most teams.

“Lye had a go but came unstuck against a quality Worcester City side.”
