YOUNG Worcester fighter Shay Ingram has added to his medal collection as well as being unbeaten in three mixed martial arts (MMA) fights.

Ingram, who turned 16 in August, beat Oliver Johnson at the GPUK Night of the Gladiators in Stoke after seeing off Dan Foster at Cage Steel in Derby with both first-round victories.

He had won his first MMA fight against Jack Star at a previous Night of the Gladiators show in Stoke in April.

The teenager continues to train five times a week and is getting the rewards for his hard work.

Ingram won a British junior wrestling gold in Peterborough for the second year running, this time in the cadets 80kg category.

Earlier in the year, he secured Brazilian jiu-jitsu gold at the Elite BJJ Events Junior World Championships in the over 68kg no gi category at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton.

Ingram received his blue belt in the martial art and then headed to Rome, Italy, for the European Championships with the first United Kingdom Mixed Martial Arts Federation’s England cadet team to collect one win and a defeat.

He still trains at Team Renegade Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Birmingham and does his boxing with DP Boxing and Fitness in Worcester.

Tudor Grange Academy pupil Ingram has also signed to a management team where Birmingham’s British MMA professional Leon Edwards is the co-founder.

He has trained in MMA since the age of six and was first introduced to Brazilian jiu-jitsu at seven by the late John Jones, who ran Worcester Little Kickboxers classes at Perdiswell, and John Lenegan.

The no gi form of the martial art involves grappling without the traditional uniform.
