THE Escort crew of Wayne and Will Lloyd showed that consistency was key to win the Torques Builth Showground Rally overall.

The 36 competitive miles proved demanding with wet conditions across the loose sections as well as the asphalt which would catch some crews out.

The event organised by Herefordshire Motor Club, saw a slender margin of two seconds separated the Lloyd's from Stevie Ellis and Iwan Thomas in their BMW32, concluding in the fastest time on the last stage and second overall.

Upholding front wheel drive honours was Christian Prynne, co-driven by his daughter Carys, who put in an impressive performance in their Peugeot 205 GTi to finish third overall and winning their classification.

Previous winners Sam Davies and Martin Lasper had a day to forget, after going fastest on the opening stage they suffered problems during the day loosing valuable time and dropped to 49th before fighting back to finish seventh overall.

The Peugeot 206 Cup car crew of Huw Jones and Darren Williams won Class 2 and finished a worthy fourth overall.

Rounding off the top five was the 1400 Nissan Micra Kit Car of Marcus Pagett and Rhys Stoneman, also taking a clear Class 1 win by over three minutes.

Other winners were: Conrad and Sophie Law (Escort Mk 1) in Class 3, Mark and Claire Lennox (Escort) in Class 5.

Meanwhile, the Vauxhall Chevette crew of Chris Jones and Daniel Harris and Subaru Imprezza crew of Edward Lloyd and Bryan Barrell respectively won Classes 6 and 7.

Dan Petrie, from Leominster, won Best Novice Driver, co-driven by the Escort car owner Andrew Sheers.

Best Mixed Crew were Gethin Price and Hannah Kelly in their Micra while the Best Herefordshire Motor Club Crew went to Monkland son and father team of Josh and Wayne Jenkins (Peugeot 205).

Meanwhile Nick Morris who was co-driven by his son Cameron on their first event together (Escort Mk 2) finished 23rd overall, with Hereford's Lewis Mason and Cameron Wheatley finishing 26th in the Clio.

Rob Hansford and Adam Jones would bring the Subaru Impreza in at 30th after mixed fortunes during the day.
