BROMSGROVE head coach Dan Protherough praised his side's defensive efforts following their victory over Doncaster Phoenix.

The Boars sit fifth in the Midlands Premier after a battling 15-8 away success last Saturday.

He said: "It was a very tight game but we defended really well.

"We thought wee were going to be playing on the 4G pitch but in the end played on Knights pitch, which had drained really well considering the amount of rain we'd had.

"We started well but went behind to an early penalty and spent a lot of the time without the ball.

"We looked dangerous when we did have the ball and managed to get ahead at half time.

"At the start of the second half we had plenty of possession but failed to score. They got it back to 10-8 and the game was really in the balance at that point.

"We went and won it thanks to a Drew Harper tap penalty.

"It was really pleasing because it was a long way to go and we had a few people unavailable or missing through injury and had to defend well.

"It was very much a potential banana skin but the lads dealt with it very well."

Bromsgrove hope to have Hugh Lockhart among those back available when they host Kettering at Finstall Park this Saturday (2.15pm kick-off).
