WORCESTER Warriors have issued an apology to supporters who spent “an unacceptable length of time queuing to leave” the Sixways car park on Sunday.
Drivers were stuck in long queues exiting the site following Worcester Warriors’ Gallagher Premiership defeat to Exeter Chiefs.
Warriors released a statement today saying the problems were as a result of traffic flow issues on the Sixways island where roadworks are on-going.
But the club apologised to fans and managing director Peter Kelly said Warriors aimed to hold “urgent discussions” with Highways England in a bid to fix the problem.
“We can understand the frustrations of supporters who spent an unacceptable length of time queuing to leave the car park on Sunday,” Kelly said.
“Staff from the club and EST, our car parking partner, worked hard to find solutions on the night but the issue stemmed from tailbacks on Sixways island which are beyond the control of the club.
“We shall be seeking urgent discussions with Highways England, who are responsible for traffic management at the motorway junction to ensure that there is no repeat of Sunday’s congestion.
“As a club we will continue to review and improve our own traffic management systems.”
