Worcestershire CCC batsman Jack Haynes has been included in the England Under-19 squad for the Tri-Series against India and Bangladesh which includes three matches at Blackfinch New Road.

It is a second call-up for the Malvern College pupil after he made his Under-19s debut in last summer’s Test and ODI Series against South Africa.

Haynes made his mark in those series, scoring 27 and 28 in a low-scoring Second Test at Durham – the highest run aggregate in the game by an England player – and 74 in the ODI at Gosforth.

But he was ruled out of the winter series in Bangladesh because of a foot injury.

Haynes scored a splendid 180 not out this summer for Worcestershire Seconds in a 50 over match against Yorkshire Seconds at Kidderminster.

He signed his first professional contract with the County last summer when he made his List A debut against West Indies A at Blackfinch New Road.

Worcestershire will stage England’s matches with India (July 21) and Bangladesh (July 22) with Bangladesh and India meeting each other at the County’s headquarters on July 24.

The 16 strong England squad, captained by Lancashire’s George Balderson, features players from 11 counties – all of whom will be available for selection for the ICC U19 World Cup in South Africa in early 2020.

Ten players return from the squad that travelled to Bangladesh in January, including Ben Charlesworth, who averaged 52 on the tour, and Derbyshire spinner Hamidullah Qadri, who was the leading wicket-taker with nine.

England Under-19 Head Coach Jon Lewis said: “We’re expecting a big test against India and Bangladesh this summer – two countries who are very strong at this level of cricket.

“We enjoyed a brilliant learning experience on tour to Bangladesh in the New Year, where our players were tested in some unfamiliar conditions, so it will be interesting to see if we can turn the tables on home soil.

“These fixtures are excellent for developing a player’s skills, experience and character – some of the best young cricketers from the three countries will be battling against each other and these ‘best versus best’ experiences are what we feel give the players the greatest opportunity for learning whilst on the international pathway.”
