REDDITCH United chairman Chris Swan says it's time for fans to "stand up and be counted" if they want the club to progress.

The chief at the Trico Stadium called on Reds' followers to contribute more financial support next season in his programme notes for last Saturday's game against Tamworth.

He revealed a loss of £107,900 on first team games over the last year and said he has been forced to financially support the club with an additional £70,000 this term.

It has led him to call on fans to do more and for a supporters' club to be set up to aid fundraising initiatives that could bolter first team coffers.

Writing in the matchday programme, he said: "There has not been the supporters' financial support promised to the first team playing budget.

"The season has seen lacklustre attendance and minimal support from supporters (apart from the good stalwarts) off the pitch in the bar etc.

"What football team do the supporters want? I will not be supporting the club financially to this level next year."

Expanding on the issue, he added: "The time has come for the supports to decide what sort of club they want. A lot of the clubs nearby have big supports' clubs that raise funds and invest in the playing side of things.

"We have a loyal support of 300 or so but we have a catchment area with more than 100,000 people. We need them to step up and be counted and support the club now.

"I can keep putting the money in. I am prepared to do that for capital but I need help when it comes to the playing budget. It is time for the fans to step up to the plate."

Reds look set for another season in the Southern League Central with manager Paul Smith's side sitting in 17th place and nine points ahead of St Neots in the final relegation place.
