PAUL Smith celebrated his Redditch United side reaching the 40 point mark this season following their goalless draw with Tamworth.

Smith insisted: “Forty points was the first bench-mark that I looked at after taking charge.

“To achieve this with six games still remaining shows how far we’ve come when I had to completely rebuild the side.

“It was a real good game against Tamworth despite the scoreline and neither side deserved to lose.

“To take a point off Tamworth and keep a clean sheet at the same times speaks volumes when you consider they have won seven of their last eight games.

“I thought Robbie Bunn in particular was outstanding while Josh Hawker also had a great game despite the fact he’s nowhere near fully fit”.

Smith was able to welcome back midfield man Michael McGrath from suspension while injury hit Rob Evans returned on the bench.

Smith can now call upon Richard Batchelor and James Bowen for Saturday’s trip to Coalville Town as the pair have now completed three match bans.

But Smith revealed he has parted company with his former Blues and Partick Thistle midfield man Jack Storer.

Smith explained: “Jack wants to play at a higher level and I felt it was best for both parties if we parted company.

“I want people who want to play for Redditch but I feel that Jack is really looking for full-time football.

“I would have liked to keep him until the end of the season but I know Jack has attracted some interest from a couple of National League North sides.

“I suspect what Jack really wants is full time football and I wish him well for the future”.

Smith will also be running the rule over Alvechurch player Luke Yates this week with a view to joining the Reds.

Yates has found himself out in the cold at Church following the arrival of Tom Tonks plus the good form of Kieron Cook and consequently has been playing on loan at West Midlands League side Wolves Casuals.
