WALES’ Six Nations hero Josh Adams will leave Worcester Warriors at the end of the season to join Cardiff Blues.

As the Worcester News exclusively revealed in December, Cardiff have been leading the race to snap up Adams whose contract expires this summer.

And the Welsh club have now confirmed the capture of the 23-year-old following the approval of their budget.

Since joining Warriors’ academy in 2016 Adams has crossed the whitewash 34 times in 59 first-team appearances, finishing last season as the Premiership’s joint top try-scorer with 13 tries in 17 games.

But due to the Welsh Rugby Union’s 60-cap rule the Swansea-born star had to return to his home country to keep his international hopes alive.

“It is great to be returning to Wales and I cannot wait to link up with Cardiff Blues next season,” Adams said.

“I’ve been really impressed with (head coach) John Mulvihill’s vision for the future and the attacking brand of rugby the Blues play will really suit my game.

“It is a young and exciting squad with a good blend of experience which has a bright future and I’m looking forward to contributing towards that.

“I will always be grateful to Worcester Warriors for giving me the opportunity to become a professional player and I have loved my time at Sixways.

“But to play for Wales I need to play in Wales and Cardiff Blues is the best fit for me.

“I’m really looking forward to the next chapter at Cardiff Arms Park.”

Adams starred throughout Wales’ march to Grand Slam glory and bagged three tries in the process including stunning efforts against England and Scotland.

He has been nominated for player of the tournament and Mulvihill believes his signing is a significant signal of intent.

“It’s an exciting signing for the region and demonstrates our strong rugby ambition going forward,” Mulvihill said.

“Josh is a player we can build success around. He brings a genuine hunger to succeed, enormous energy and the skill-set and speed to make a real difference to our group.

“Just from watching the Six Nations you can see he’s a really busy player who makes big contributions both in attack and defence and is a good team man.

“We’re looking forward to getting him on board for next season.”
