WORCESTER Amateur Boxing Club flyweight Alison Sidebotham had a frustrating night with a controversial defeat in her second contest.

She faced Tavistock's Carleigh Bammens in Torquay after travelling down with coaches Mick Underwood and Ed Morris.

Sidebotham started aggressively, letting straight shots go to constantly force Bammens' head back and nearly give the referee reason for a standing count.

In the second round she let her shots go but was met with two-punch combinations from her opponent who occasionally caught the city boxer with the rear hand.

The third round was pretty much the same until the last 30 seconds when Sidebotham showed aggression and fitness to push Bammens around the ring, doing enough to edge the round.

But when the result was announced the judges favoured the less aggressive and accurate Bammens.

Worcester's female boxing coach Morris said: "I don't understand how the judges gave it to the other girl.

"Alison was more aggressive and landed more shots.

"Mick and I both thought the ref was going to give the other girl a count in the first.

"Everyone came up to us at the end and said how well Alison had boxed and that she definitely deserved the win.

"Alison should be extremely proud of herself. She did her city, club and herself proud."
