IMPRESSIVE Alcester reeled off a fourth straight league win when they avenged an opening day of the season defeat with a 21-0 success over Balsall and Berkswell.

It leaves Alcester in seventh place of Midlands Three South West going into the second half of the season.

Alcester played the dreadful weather conditions well, especially in the second half when going up the slope.

Ross Gard grabbed the opening try after capitalising on a clever grubber kick while accurate Max Biltcliffe added the conversion points.

That was after Balsall and Berkswell had been on top in the early exchanges which had resulted with Alcester's James Bates being handed a yellow card for persistent infringements.

Alcester added a second try on the stroke of half time when Matt Ashvby crashed over following a series of pick up and drives.

The second half saw Alcester keep possession for long periods with Balsall and Berkswell reduced to repeated infringements which result with a yellow card of their own.

Max Biltcliffe took advantage by landing three more penalties to seal victory.

Alcester's second XV suffered a narrow 7-5 defeat when facing Dixonians at Rowheath Park.

Although Alcester took the lead with a try from second row Ross Bayliss, Dixonians responded with a converted try.

In the end, the referee succumbed to the bad weather and called a halt to play having only just announced there was still another 14 minutes to play.
