FAIRFIELD Villa threw the form book out of the window this week by inflicting top of the table GNP from Coventry with their first defeat of the season in Midland League Division Two.

Following drubbings from both local rivals Redditch Borough and Knowle FC, Villa looked a completely different side as they dealt GNP with a 5-2 defeat.

Delighted Villa spokesman Paul Oakes said: "We were superb from 1 to 14. It was brilliant.

"In truth, it should have been more as we missed two real good chances to score when we were 4-2 up".

Early strikes from Scott Smith and Ellis Blakemore put Villa 2-0 up before GNP battled back to level early in the second half.

Oakes admitted: "At that point, we thought we'd got a real fight on our hands. But we went back in front and never looked back. It was one of those days which put a smile on everyone's face."

Rueben Wilson made it 3-2 before substitute Jarrad Hill struck twice to seal victory.

Oakes added: "What was particularly pleasing was the fact we included two 17-year-olds from the reserves in Miles Brookes and Matt Jackson. Neither of them looked out of place."

Villa cannot afford to rest on their laurels as they travel to second-placed Northfield Town this Saturday for another Midland League match.
