REDDITCH United boss Paul Smith ramped up his squad this week by bringing in two new signings.

Smith has snapped up giant target man Mitch Piggon from Birmingham-based Romulus together with experienced midfield player Richard Batchelor who has arrived from Highgate United.

A satisfied Smith said: "Although we didn't have a game this weekend, it was still a very fruitful week for Redditch as both players will make a big difference.

"Richard is better known for his time at Leamington. He's a big personality and a midfield man with real desire.

"He's spent the past couple of seasons with Highgate and was there during my brief spell in charge where I got to know him really well.

"He now wants to step back up again and we did really well to get Richard to Redditch as there was a great deal of interest in him.

"Richard will help the younger players and I just hope they listen to him.

"Mitch is six-feet-four and a big asset. He will give us something different in attack.

"I've always said that I won't bring in players just for the sake of it. We've had to be patient in both cases but we needed to bring in players as the squad was beginning to look a bit light.

"We'd lost Ollie Mulders who is currently playing for Bewdley Town, Mason Birch had gone to Worcester City while Montel Gibson has joined Bedworth United, where he scored on his debut against Tamworth.

"I also hope to have another signing over the line ahead of Saturday's game against Kings Lynn.

"Prior to to that game, Reds were due to visit runaway leaders Kettering before entertaining Kings Lynn.

Smith admitted: "They are two of the big-hitters in this league and I'm not really expecting anything. However, I've spotted weaknesses and that is something I hope to expose.

"I'm just hoping we get a good crowd behind us on Saturday because it can make a real difference.

"The crowds have been going up recently and I believe people are buying into what we are trying to achieve.

"We are definitely going in the right direction."
