MATTI Williams is set to be rewarded for his excellent form in the cup competitions with a first Premiership outing of the season.

The openside flanker has starred for Worcester Warriors in the European Challenge Cup and Premiership Cup over the past five weeks.

And with Marco Mama (hamstring) “unlikely” to be fit for tomorrow’s trip to Bath (12.45pm) Williams is expected to get his taste of league action.

Director of rugby Alan Solomons fielded a weakened side for last Sunday’s Premiership Cup clash with Saracens as he looked to prepare his first-team stars for Warriors’ battle with Bath.

But Williams’ try-scoring display in the 34-22 defeat at the Allianz Park appears to have won over Solomons who will name his squad today.

“I thought he was absolutely outstanding,” Solomons said.

“It does not matter what rotation you do there is competition at all times for places.

“Matt is certainly one guy who has put his hand up and said ‘You have got to take notice of me’.

“Obviously he is going to come into the mix in terms of selection.

“He has produced good performances in every game he has played.”

With blindside flanker Ted Hill away on England duty experienced back rower Matt Cox is also likely to come into the reckoning.

Solomons had hoped to be boosted by the return of Mama who has been nursing a hamstring issue since Worcester’s 52-7 thrashing of Bristol Bears in early October.

But Solomons admitted the 27-year-old who missed almost the entire 2017-18 season due to anterior cruciate knee ligament injury was “still struggling”.

“As things stand it is unlikely he will play,” Solomons said.

“Some of the hamstring was used for the repair of the ACL (last year) so you get scar tissue.

“It’s nothing major but we have got to make sure that it is 100 per cent right.”

Centres Ryan Mills and Ollie Lawrence are poised to comeback after recovering from an ankle problem and dead leg respectively.

Solomons said lock Pierce Philips who had been struggling with a calf injury had also “trained fully” this week.

But new second row Michael Fatialofa is not in Solomons’ plans for this weekend’s encounter.

The New Zealander arrived at Sixways earlier this month after playing for Hurricanes in Super Rugby and Auckland in the Mitre10 Cup.

“We have just got to be patient and wait until Michael is completely right,” Solomons added.

“I am not putting him under any pressure to play. Let’s get him up to speed and then he will be in for the rest of the year.”
